We all want that perfect smile but a little trip to the dentist can be a tad too pricey. Having bright white teeth does not only imply having good oral hygiene, it also gives off good first impressions. Nothing can be more off-putting than having yellow stained teeth. As for that, it is important for us to keep teeth clean and white. Don’t know how to ? Here are 5 natural ways to whiten your teeth.

#1 Strawberries

Any strawberry lovers out there? Well, this is your lucky day! Strawberries can naturally whiten your teeth. Weird right? Scientists stated that the malic acid in strawberries can remove discolouration in teeth. In other words, it exfoliates your teeth. It can be done by just eating strawberries, but for instant results you might need to mix smashed strawberries with baking soda and turn them into a paste. And you’ll  have your very own strawberry flavoured toothpaste! Although, no studies has proven that it would cause any harm, it would be better to stay safe and minimize the usage of it. We all know, too much of anything could cause harm.

#2 Coconut Oil Pulling

Coconut Oil has been an Indian folk remedy for generations. Indians believe that coconut oil can bring lots of benefits to the body and whitening the teeth is one of them. A study stated that coconut oil is high in lauric acid that kills bacteria. It has also been proven that it could prevent people from getting gum diseases, bad breath and tooth decay. How cool is that! All you have to do is rinse your mouth with coconut oil for approximately 15-20 minutes. However, do remember to throw them into the trash as coconut oil could clog your pipes once it gets into its solid form. Once rinsed, brush your teeth as how you usually brush.

#3 Baking Soda

Baking Soda has always been known for its natural whitening properties and the ability to scrub away stains. In fact, most toothpaste and other cleaning detergents has baking soda in it. Scientists has also tested and proved that the higher the concentration of baking soda paste there is the better the whitening effect would be. To use this method, all you have to do is stir up 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 teaspoon of water together to create a paste and brush your teeth with it. To get best results, do it 3 times a week!

#4 Apple Cider vinegar

Apple cider is commonly used in food and beverages but other than that it is also often used in disinfectant and natural cleaning products. This is no different when it comes to cleaning your teeth. However, scientists has recently found out that by overusing apple cider vinegar as a way to clean your teeth, may bleach and soften your teeth which would eventually erode the enamel and this would definitely be bad for the gums around your teeth. So, if you choose this method, do it cautiously and remind yourself not to overdo it! All you have to do is mix apple cider vinegar with water and rinse your mouth with it! But remember to rinse your mouth again with plain water.

#5 Turmeric Paste

Turmeric Paste is known for so many health benefits but have you ever heard that it’s also good for whitening the teeth? Yes! Turmeric paste, the paste that easily stains could actually whiten your teeth. All you have to do is wet your toothbrush and dip  ⅛ teaspoon of turmeric powder into your toothbrush and brush your teeth normally. However, don’t rinse when you’re done instead let it stay for 3-5 minutes for its magic to work! Spit and rinse thoroughly, follow with brushing your teeth the usual way with your usual toothpaste.
